Idea Cloning is Here: Build on What Works in StrategyBlocks

Great ideas can come from anywhere in your organization: a proposed new project, a suggestion, or an entirely new high-level strategy. The StrategyBlocks Ideas module has always provided a centralized intake hub where new initiatives and business cases can be proposed, evaluated, and approved. But we heard your feedback: previously, taking an idea from inception to publication was a one-way street. Once an idea was approved and published to the live Blocks Tree, it couldn’t be retrieved, reused, or modified to test different scenarios.

That changes now. We’ve added a powerful new capability to the Ideation module: Idea Cloning.

You can now clone any idea, including those that have already been approved and published to your active strategic plan. This update transforms strategy from a rigid path into a dynamic, reusable sandbox.

Granular Control Over Your Clones

When you clone an idea, you don’t just get a blank duplicate. You get complete control over which components you want to carry over. As part of the clone process, you can choose to:

  • Clone the Planner: Bring over the complete idea structure, timelines, and resource management allocations into a single view.
  • Clone the Metrics: Carry over the exact KPIs and quantitative targets used to measure business outcomes.
  • Clone the Risks: Retain the pre-identified threats that could affect the successful implementation of this idea.
  • Clone the Documents: Duplicate the artifact repository, keeping all attached governance documentation, meeting notes, and supporting files intact, including the materials StrategyBlocks AI uses to help shape your idea.

The Power of Cloning Your Own Ideas

Reusing your own ideas significantly accelerates the planning cycle. Instead of starting from scratch, you can rapidly model future targets and develop what-if scenarios. Cloning acts as a sandbox where you can propose alternative delivery approaches, adjust schedules, and analyze resource contention within the Planner before committing to a final path. If a project performed well in the past, that structure becomes the immediate framework for refinement and reuse.

Fostering Innovation by Cloning the Ideas of Others

The broader value of this feature lies in enterprise-wide collaboration. A strategic plan must be able to grow from the bottom up, drawing on contributions from across the organization. By cloning the best-practice project structures created by other departments or colleagues, teams can build on proven methodologies, standardized metrics, and pre-identified risks from across the enterprise.

Idea cloning breaks down organizational silos. When your teams can build on what others have already done well, your organization executes strategy faster and with greater alignment.
